Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Ralph Bellamour, talks about basic life-saving skills taught at the Combat Lifesaver Course at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 1, 2017. Bellamour, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is a tactical combat casualty care instructor with the Tactical Medical Simulation Center, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Bellamour describes his experience as a first responder during the 2010 Haiti earthquake and how it influenced his decision to join the Navy.

Marines overcome obstacles and breach buildings during the SAPPER Squad Competition held at Camp Pendleton, Calif., from June 12 to 16, 2017. Marines from 1st, 2nd and 4th Combat Engineers Battalion and 3rd Combat Assault Battalion competed against each other for a week to test their strengths within their occupational field. Marines competed in 3rd Marine Division's annual squad competition among rifle squads and crew-served weapons units on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. The competition was held from Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2016, in order to evaluate standards-based infantry training and recognize proficiency in infantry and crew-served weapons skills. 12 different squads representing the major subordinate elements within 3rd Marine Division competed, as well as guests from 2nd Marine Division. The Marine Corps’ best combat engineer squads competed in the first installment of the SAPPER Squad Competition at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 20-24. The competition was a series of skill-based challenges that all combat engineers must be able to perform in the most proficient manner.
