Marines assigned to 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion train for an upcoming mission aboard Marine Corps Outlying Field Atlantic, N.C., Sept. 21 2016. The training included controlling entry points, standing post, and being tested with realistic scenarios that Marines may encounter while establishing ground security. Marines participate in Arctic Edge 18

Arctic Edge is a biennial, large-scale, joint-training exercise that prepares and tests the U.S. military’s ability to operate tactically in the extreme cold-weather conditions found in Arctic environments. Task Force Arctic Edge is comprised of Marines from all across II Marine Expeditionary Force, and consists of more than 1500 participants from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy utilizing the unique and expansive air and ground training areas in Alaska.

Marines with 2nd LAAD hone Shooting Skills

More than 50 Marines with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing cycled through weapons qualifications during an M240 Bravo machine gun, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun range at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 29-30, 2016. The exercise allowed Marines to re-familiarize themselves with the weapons and qualify on them. The primary missions of the battalion are to provide low altitude ground-to-air weapon support and provide ground security for air bases.
