MARFORSOUTH celebrates 17 years of operation

U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South was activated as a unit Oct. 1, 1999. Over the last 17 years, MARFORSOUTH has commanded the Marines operating in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. Marines have been continuously engaged in planning, coordinating, and executing the involvement of Marine forces in foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts, training partner nations to conduct counter-transnational organized crime operations, and other operations and activities in support of SOUTHCOM's theater strategic objectives.

SPMAGTF-SC concludes deployment in Central America

U.S. Marines and sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Southern Command have begun redeploying from Central America. And during their six month deployment, they trained alongside service members from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Belize. They also participated in various engineering projects and assisted the U.S. Agency for International Development's relief mission to Haiti after Hurricane Matthew. Marines complete Hurricane Matthew relief mission

Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Southern Command provided humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts to Haiti as part of Joint Task Force Matthew. By the time the mission ended Oct. 19, service members with Joint Task Force Matthew delivered more than 603,000 pounds of emergency supplies to Haiti in support of the U.S. Agency for International Development's relief mission.
