Marines with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, participate in a division-level combined arms live fire exercise during Steel Knight 17 at Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., from Dec. 5 to Dec. 10, 2016. 1st LAR mounted their LAV-25s and headed out into the desert for four days of live-fire exercises and realistic training. The Environmental Affairs (EA) Division is staffed with experts in the fields of environmental management and conservation. These individuals are devoted to providing the resources and expertise that allow the Combat Center to consider all aspects of the environment in the planning and implementation of advanced training and exercises, while fulfilling the role as stewards of the environment.

Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 participated in a field exercise aboard Marine Corps Outlying Field Camp Davis, N.C., Sept. 22, 2016. Support squadrons across the Marine Corps often conduct these exercises to remain ready for any challenge they may face in forward deployed environments. This exercise featured events such as auxiliary airfield construction, ground security and airfield damage repair. The squadron's capabilities contribute to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's role in the Marine Air Ground Task Force's mission accomplishment.

The Combat Center hosted Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory for Marine Air Ground Task Force Integrated Experiment 2016, July 22 through Aug. 5, as part of Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2016. The experiment, held July 26 through Aug. 5, tested Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Company Landing Team’s ability to operate in an enemy controlled area with limited resources and capabilities while utilizing future tactics, techniques and procedures. The end goal was to explore the extent to which smaller units will require various assets to remain mission effective.
