Marines with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion take to the water and participate in a beach landing operation at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 2, 2017. Amphibious assault vehicles made their way to the USS New York, where they practiced loading and offloading equipment through ship-to-shore movements.

Marines with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion conducted Heavy Brigade Combat Team operations Nov. 16 through 20, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. HBCT is a three-week course, which improved the Marines’ ability to understand how the operating procedures of the Assault Amphibious Vehicle’s weapon systems and also trained the Marines to identify the capabilities and limitations of enemy vehicles.

The training provided the Marines with a scenario that tested their abilities to exit a downed amphibious assault vehicle and swim to another vehicle or to the nearest beach.

Marines with 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, slipped onto Onslow Beach, N.C., early Nov. 4, 2014, to secure a beachhead for the assault amphibious vehicles of 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. The training exercise was one of many ongoing operations taking part during Bold Alligator 14, a scenario-driven event designed to test the Navy-Marine Corps team’s ability to conduct multifaceted operations from a base of support at sea. Reconnaissance Marines on the beach tested their ability to send back vital information to commanders off the coast, painting a picture of the landing zone and any enemy activity. Working off of their real-time intelligence, commanders then organized a larger beach landing to simulate the type of operation that could be used to support a Marine Air Ground Task Force’s operations ashore in a forward-deployed environment.
