U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy Sailors embarked on ships part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, share their experiences while underway in the Philippine Sea, Jan. 29 - March 17, 2024. This video production serves to display the everyday routines of servicemembers on ship while at sea. U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducted training throughout the Indo-Pacific region while embarked upon ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) during a deployment in the fall of 2020. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) conduct a fast rope and deck shoot rehearsal aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The training simulated a helicopter insert into an opposed Visit, Board, Search and Seizure, one of the main mission sets of the MRF. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Marines with 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit participate in a historical battle site tour in Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 19, 2019. Marines toured Kakazu Ridge, Camp Kinser Battle of Okinawa Historical Display, Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters , and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park to learn about the Marine Corps’ actions in Okinawa during World War II, with the tour supported by the Marine Corps Association & Foundation. The battlefield study was part of MCA&F’s Commanders’ Forum Program which provides battlefield studies and guest speakers free of charge, to help Marines grow as tactical decision makers and leaders. Flight operations are critical for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the combined capabilities of the Aviation Combat Element’s jet, helicopter, tiltrotor, and unmanned aircraft allows for a wide range of mission capabilities. These missions vary from long-range missile strikes, surveillance, to gear, equipment and troop transfers. Everyone is aware that the pilots and aircraft provide an important service to the operational requirements of the 15th MEU. However, little is known of the men and women who make all the flight operations possible.

ARABIAN GULF (Nov. 23, 2017) Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer visited Sailors and Marines of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the America Amphibious Ready Group aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) Thanksgiving Day. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region. U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 8, 2017) Marines with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Maritime Raid Force conduct a visit, board, search and seizure mission aboard USS Lewis B. Puller (T-ESB 3) during exercise Alligator Dagger 2017. VBSSs are conducted to capture and control a suspected enemy vessel in order to combat terrorism, piracy and smuggling operations on the sea. Available expeditionary Navy/Marine Corps forces stand ready aboard ships to assure allies, deter potential adversaries and provide persistent U.S. presence.
