U.S. Marines and Master Labor Contractors with the Logistics Department Fuels Division utilized the Aircraft Direct Fueling System (ADFS) during a hot refuel with the new system at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 26, 2017. The ADFS allows the aircraft to rotate crew, take on cargo or Marines and keep its engines running while accepting fuel. This training marked the first MV-22 Osprey refueling evolution at the new hot-refueling pit. 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing squadrons along with joint forces participated in exercise Agile Lightning aboard Marine Corps bases in the San Diego area, Jan. 30 - Feb. 3. Agile Lightning showcased the F-35B Lightning II's ability to conduct short takeoff/vertical landing operations and complete training prerequisites in a robust and complex training environment.
