A part of the Camp Pendleton 75th Anniversary series that highlights Camp Pendleton's involvement in Marine Corps History. Gen. Alexander Archer Vandegrift commanded the 1st Marine Division to victory in its first ground offensive of World War II, the Battle of Guadalcanal, and later became the 18th Commandant of the Marine Corps.
