Former U.S. Senator, Secretary of the Navy, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran James Webb and Notre Dame professor, Michael C. Desch present a dog tag to the family of Cpl. Larry A Hughes during a ceremony in Inglis, Florida, Feb. 17, 2023. Webb, who received the Navy Cross for actions while serving as a platoon commander in Vietnam, and Michael Desch, a professor of International Relations at the University of Notre Dame and the director of the Notre Dame International Security Center, recovered Hughes' dog tag while conducting a battlefield study at the An Hoa airstrip in Vietnam.
