U.S. Marines utilize the Small Unmanned Aircraft System as part of exercise Joint Assault Signals Company Black, Waiouru Military Camp, New Zealand, September 18, 2018. Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment conducted Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) training on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California Sept. 19, 2018. This training certified the Marines to be SUAS opertators. This increases situational awareness and enhances the Marines' ability to plan and adapt to the mission.

U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (REIN), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepare to launch an RQ-21 Blackjack unmanned aircraft system during Combined Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21), Nov. 10, 2017. Lance Cpl. Natema Yazzie speaks about the traditions she grew up with as part of a Navajo tribe, at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. May 31, 2017. Yazzie grew up in Douglas Mesa, Utah, a Native American governed U.S. territory. Yazzie attributes her preparedness for time in the service to her grandfather, others from the tribe who have served, and her time at boarding school. Yazzie still participates in her Navajo heritage by paying respect to her elders and prays every day. Marines launch a RQ-21A Blackjack from the flight deck of the USS San Diego (LPD-22) during PHIBRON-MEU Integration, April 12, 2017. The Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced) attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit launched and recovered the RQ-21A Blackjack after conducting a surveillance and reconnaissance mission. PMINT is the 15th MEU's first at-sea training period and an opportunity for the Marines to work closely with their Navy counterparts as they complete mission essential tasks.

Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron (VMU) 1 launches the RQ-7B Version 2 Shadow from Cannon Air Defense Complex in Yuma, Ariz., March 26. The squadron launched their first flight after moving from Twentynine Palms, Calif., to their new location. Marine Wing Support Squadrons (MWSS) 371 and 274 built a runway for VMU-1's aircraft.
