The U.S. Army uses LCUs for operations across the Pacific. An LCU is a Landing Craft Utility, it’s a platform, it’s a flat-bottom vessel that the army uses to approach beachheads and also unimproved ports to deliver cargo and goods for operations. The Army mariners aboard USAV Broad Run are based in Fort Eustis, Virginia, and are in Okinawa on a nine-month deployment.This is, this is kind of our culminating exercise, our culminating event, we’re going to be carrying cargo to multiple countries here in the pacific, supporting many exercises with host nations.Their last voyage is slated to last 40 days, which is a long time for a vessel of this type.
