Local educators and community members of Yuma, Ariz., were invited to take a look at what occurs inside Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron (MAWTS) One and experience what Marines attending and supporting Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 1-18 go through Oct. 13, 2017. WTI is a course hosted twice a year by MAWTS-1 that provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications, providing assistance in the development and employment of aviation weapons and tactics. U.S. Marines and multinational militaries gather together to support the town of Huarmey, Peru, during UNITAS 2017, July 24, 2017. Much of Huarmey had been damaged by recent flooding, and Marines delivered more than 100 pallets of donated items from Project Handclasp for the city's hospital and schools. Project Handclasp is a U.S. Navy program that delivers humanitarian and educational materials donated by U.S. citizens. UNITAS is an annual, multinational exercise that focuses on strengthening existing regional partnerships and encourages establishing new relationships through the exchange of maritime mission-focused knowledge and expertise during multinational training operations. U.S. Navy Chaplain Lt. Aroon Seeda and Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Unit, hand out school supplies and teach English to students at the Ban Phan Sa Nguan School in Korat Province Feb. 15, 2017 as part of Cobra Gold 2017. Seeda, a Thailand native, is the only Buddhist Chaplain with the U.S. Navy and is with Navy Operational Support Unit. CG17 maintains a consistent focus on Humanitarian Civic Action (HCA), community engagement, and medical activities conducted during the exercise to support the needs and humanitarian interests of civilian populations around the region.
