U.S. Marine Corps 1st Marine Division commanding general MajGen. Eric M. Smith and SgtMaj. William T. Sowers gives a public safety announcement to all Marines on the importance of motorcycle safety on Camp Pendleton, California, Jan. 30, 3017. Motorcycle accidents was the leading cause of Marine fatalities in 1st Marine Division in 2017.

On October 9th 2017, motorcycle riders should be prepared to physically show their Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) approved Basic Rider Course (BRC) credentials to Camp Pendleton gate sentries. All motorcycle riders will be checked as they enter the base. A delay in presentation of the credentials to the sentry will effect traffic, so riders are encouraged to have their BRC card readily available along with photo I.D.
