U.S. Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa 20.1, Marine Forces Europe and Africa, participate in Exercise Buffalo at Saint-Astier, France, Jan. 24, 2020. The exercise expanded upon the existing partnership between the National Gendarmerie, supported combined training, and explored future engagement opportunities. SPMAGTF-CR-AF is deployed to conduct crisis-response and theater-security operations in Africa and promote regional stability by conducting military-to-military training exercises throughout Europe and Africa. The Gendarmerie is a branch of the French Armed Forces tasked with maintaining public safety. Stationed aboard Morón Air Base, Spain, the SPMAGTF-CR-AF serves as a rotational crisis-response force for U.S. Africa Command. Throughout the training, subsequent scenarios continued to build on the last in intensity and violence.
