26th MEU Embarks for COMPTUEX

The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD-21) as part of Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) at Onslow Beach and Morehead City, N.C., Nov. 5, 2017. Remembering Beirut

On October 23, 1983, at around 06:22 Beirut time, a stake-bed truck carrying explosives drove directly into the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines barracks in Beirut, Lebanon and exploded. The force of the explosion collapsed the four-story building into rubble, crushing to death 241 American servicemen, majority of them being U.S. Marines. The Marines were part of a Multi-National Peacekeeping Force meant to oversee the peaceful withdrawal of the Palestine Liberation Organization from Lebanon. (U.S. Marine Corps Video by LCpl. MARINE AIR-GROUND TASK FORCE TRAINING CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit completed its Realistic Urban Training retrograde, March 21, 2017, after a two-week predeployment training evolution apart of its progressive program in preparation for deployment later this year. RUT is a land-based exercise that provides an opportunity to integrate unique skills and develop the 15th MEU’s collective proficiency in challenging and unfamiliar environments. The MEU maintains a high level of readiness to be where needed, when needed, and the units undergo demanding unit-level certification cycles to be proficient in every critical mission area.

11th Marine Expeditionary Unit Marines, Omani Soldiers begin Exercise Sea Soldier 17

Led by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and hosted by the Royal Army of Oman, the annual, two-weeklong bilateral exercise aims to enhance communication and coordination between U.S. and Omani forces, build mutual warfighting capability, and support long-term regional cooperation.The training includes: military operations on urban terrain (MOUT), building clearing, checkpoint operations, command and control procedures, counter-IED training, live-fire ranges, squad to company tactics, mortar ranges, and a culminating final exercise, which will be a combined Omani-U.S. raid. U.S. units participating in Sea Soldier are the 11th MEU’s Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines; Combat Logistics Battalion 11; the MEU’s Command Element; and USS Somerset. The Marines and Sailors debarked from the USS Somerset, Feb. 15, to prepare for Exercise Sea Soldier.

The Battalion Landing Team and the Aviation Combat Element of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct a Fire Support Exercise during Realistic Urban Training, March 6, 2017. Conducting both day and night live-fire exercises, incorporating 81 millimeter mortars, 155 millimeter artillery, combinations of rotary wing and fixed wing close air support the MEU is better prepared to deliver responsive, accurate and deadly fires to any enemy they may face while deployed later this year.
