U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Marine Corps Base Smedley D. Butler complete their Marine Corps Martial Arts Program culminating event Dec. 14, 2018 on Torii Station, Okinawa, Japan. The Marines completed the culminating event as part of their curriculum in attaining a higher level Marine Corps Martial Arts belt. MCMAP emphasizes the complete development of a professional warrior, and is a key component of the ethical warrior concept. MCMAP is designed to improve the warfighting capabilities of individual Marines and units, enhance Marines' self-confidence and esprit de corps, and foster the warrior ethos of the Corps. Townsend Bombing Range invited local residents to hunt aboard the range Nov. 17-18. The hunters were assigned specfic hunting areas where blinds were already set up. Nearly 23 hunters attended the two day event. This opporunity allowed the local community to build bonds and learn about their neighbors at TBR.

MADISON, Wisconsin –The Marine Corps partnered with CrossFit for the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games, where thousands of athletes and spectators traveled from across the world to compete at the Alliant Energy Center, August 1-5. The Games featured the Marines’ “Battleground”, an obstacle course with cargo net rope climbs, low crawls, wall climbs and more. Also available to the spectators and competitors was the Battles Won Challenge trailer, a Marine Corps-themed mobile exercise trailer designed to test challengers physically and mentally. CrossFit promotes both a physical exercise philosophy and competitiveness; working to incorporate elements from high-interval training, Olympic weight-lifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics, strongman, and many other training techniques. Approximately 200 students graduated Marine Corps Recruiting Command's 2018 Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA) aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, July 22. The students were accepted into the academy, hand-selected by a board of Marines who look to find attendees with similar character traits as Marines, and spent a week aboard the base alongside dozens of Marines. Specifically, they conducted several physical fitness sessions, toured the National Mall in the District of Columbia, visited national museums and heard from guest speakers. They learned Marine Corps martial arts techniques and experienced Marine Barracks Washington’s Sunset Parade featuring the iconic Silent Drill Platoon and the Commandant’s Own Drum & Bugle Corps. Exposed to the culture of the Marine Corps, attendees participated in several leadership and character development classes that were oriented around Marine Corps leadership and ethics, based on knowledge passed down from one generation of military leaders to the next. They also visited Officer Candidates School, where attendees maneuvered across an obstacle course and learned what it takes to become a Marine officer. Inspired by the Marine Corps’ third promise of developing quality citizens, the program was designed to challenge and develop the nation’s top-performing high school students so they could return to their communities more confident, selfless and better equipped to improve the lives of those around them. “Not everyone who wanted to be here, got the chance,” said Maj. Gen. James Bierman, the commanding general of MCRC. “We had more than 800 applications, and we would have liked to take all of them, but there wasn’t enough capacity for everybody, so we had to make choices … all of you here today stood out among your peers. The reason why we picked all of you comes from the tangible and intangible; it was your potential that attracted us to you. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Belleau Wood, one of the Marine Corps’ most iconic battles. A ceremony took place over the Memorial Day weekend at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France in honor of the anniversary.

The Resident Energy Conservation Program (RECP) is the result of Department of Defense (DoD) initiative that has been implemented in all Public-Private Venture (PPV) family housing units aboard all Marine Corps installations. The RECP supports the Marine Corps energy strategy by encouraging energy conservation and reducing electricity costs. This product was created to provide amplifying and clarifying information regarding the Resident Energy Conservation Program to counter miss information and minimize confusion among current and future base housing residents.
