CLB-3 Marines awarded for selfless aide

Sgt. Arthur Whittaker and Staff Sgt. Nathanial Clark were recognized and awarded for their selfless acts of care during an awards ceremony, Dec. 14, 2017, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. On their way to Guam, the Marines attended to an elderly man who was traveling alone and appeared to be disoriented. Whittaker and Clark spent the rest of the seven hour flight caring for him. Whittaker, a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, is an electrical optical ordnance technician with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group. Clark, a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, is a ground communication maintenance technician with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Pfc. Wien, from Johns Creek, Georgia, is a combat rubber raiding craft coxswain with 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I MEF and is assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit through the unit deployment program.

U.S.-Japan alliance honors 240,000 lives lost in the Battle of Okinawa

Service members, veterans and government officials from Okinawa, mainland Japan and the United States gathered during Okinawa Memorial Day services June 23, 2017 at Peace Memorial Park, Itoman, Japan. The ceremony brought together service members and Okinawan residents to honor all who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa. The memorial walls are inscribed with over 240,000 names of people who died, regardless of nationality, civilian or military status in the battle. During the ceremony all who attended stood for a moment of silence honoring those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Nicholson is the Marine Forces Pacific commanding general and the Okinawa Area Coordinator. (U.S. Marine Corps audio by Lance Cpl. Andrew Neumann)

Honoring Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden

Retired U.S. Marine Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden is honored at the U.S. Marine Memorial Chapel located on Marine Corps Base Quantico, April 8, 2017. Snowden retired in 1979 after nearly 40 years of service, fought in engagements during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He passed away Feb. 18, 2017. He was prominently known after retirement for organizing joint "Reunion of Honor" missions which is an opportunity for Japanese and U.S. veterans and their families, dignitaries, leaders and service members from both nations to come together to remember the Battle of Iwo Jima. The city of Zaranj is located on the Iranian border and is one of Afghanistan's most vital trading links to the rest of the world. The port of entry generates about 100 million dollars a year. Building a new customs facility will help increase the traffic flow and prevent illegal goods from crossing over the border. All U.S. funded projects in Afghanistan require all Afghan workers to be entered into the Biometric automated toolset system (B.A.T.).
