U.S. Marines and Sailors attached to Task Force San Francisco participated in San Francisco Fleet Week, Oct. 1-8, 2018. Fleet Week offers the local community a chance to interact with the Marine Corps, as well as the other sea services through various exercises and community events. San Francisco Fleet Week is unique in that it provides local first responders an opportunity to partner with the nation’s military services in order to better prepare for potential humanitarian assistance or disaster relief efforts.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was established in 1942, and has served as a training facility for hundreds of thousands of Marines from World War II through the War on Terror. Camp Pendleton serves as the Marine Corps' primary amphibious training base and the home to I Marine Expeditionary Force, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Logistics Group and many tenant units. The coastal and mountain terrain support a variety of military training. Fleet Marine Force units use Camp Pendleton's coastline, ranges and training areas to enhance and maintain combat readiness. The Base also provides specialized schools and training as directed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Several schools are located on Camp Pendleton including Assault Amphibian School Battalion, School of Infantry-West, Field Medical Service School and Marine Corps University academies. Following recruit graduation, enlisted Marines receive basic infantry training here before assignment to other specialized units throughout the Corps. More than 40,000 military family members occupy base housing complexes. However, with a daytime population of 70,000 military and civilian personnel, the Marines, Sailors and their families rely on the surrounding communities for retail goods and services not available on Base. Camp Pendleton's mission is to provide exceptional support services to our tenant organizations and external units so that they may be better prepared to successfully accomplish their missions. Residents of Twentynine Palms gathered for a time of remembrance for the passing of retired World War II Marine, Tech. Sgt. Dorothy Lucille Angil, at the Twentynine Palms Public Cemetery, Twentynine Palms, Calif., Sept. 22, 2018. Angil enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943, in support of World War II. She later went on to support the Korean War war effort.

Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company and Battalion Landing Team 3/1 participated in the Expeditionary Fires Exercise on San Clemente Island from April 27 to April 29, 2018. The Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) integrated to conduct the second major exercise of their pre-deployment training. ARG, MEU Exercise (ARGMEUEX) provides essential realistic ship-to-shore training, designed to enhance the integration the Navy-Marine Corps team. ARGMEUEX provides an opportunity to integrate unique individual and unit skills and develop the Essex ARG and 13th MEU's collective proficiency in challenging and unfamiliar. Combat Logistics Battalion 13 has and will continue to be the Logistics Combat Element (LCE) for the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). The LCE, about 250 Marines and Sailors strong, provides combat support such as supply, maintenance, transportation, explosive ordnance disposal, military police, water purification and distribution, engineering, medical and dental services, fuel storage and distribution, and other services to the deployed MEU. The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society was founded in 1904 to provide financial support to widows and orphans of Sailors and Marines, since then they have hired registered nurses to make home visits to active duty Marines and Sailors, their dependents, widows and widowers, retirees, and combat-served veterans, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, February 21, 2018.
