Maj. Eryn RedmonSteed is a 3rd-degree black belt in taekwondo and has served more than twenty years in the United States Marine Corps. She was a part of the All-Marine Sports taekwondo team and has won two national titles, 1997 and 2018. She is currently stationed at Manpower & Reserve Affairs aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.

The Summer Leadership Character Development Academy selects students who embody the Marine Corps spirit and look for the opportunity to challenge themselves. Service members attend the second Okinawan Kenpo and Kobudo International Seminar at a dojo in Ginowan, Okinawa, Japan, October 29, 2016. The seminar was being held over a two-day period, October 29-30, 2016, and allowed senseis from around the world to teach and train interested locals and service members on Okinawa, the birthplace and "Mecca" of karate. Members from the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps, including contractors and veterans, attended the seminar.

Japan Ground Self-Defense Force soldiers demonstrate martial arts techniques to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Marines with 3rd Marine Logistics Group and Marine Corps Installations Pacific earn their tabs in the Martial Arts Instructors Course to qualify to be Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructors. Their character, mental fortitude and physical endurance are tested constantly throughout the course as they are put through rigorous training and instruction. Within the course they were also provided an opportunity to train with an Okinawan Karate sensei (teacher).
