U.S. Marines with Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, members of the Uruma City Police Station, and Okinawan volunteers gathered to hand out pamphlets and charms to promote a combined safe driving awareness campaign in Uruma City, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 27, 2019. Reducing driving under the influence is a priority for III Marine Expeditionary Force in order to combat drinking and driving. III MEF and Marine Corps Installations Pacific have instituted a variety of preventative programs including the “Not One Drop" campaign, outbound gate sobriety checks, and “Liberty Buddy” requirements for junior Marines. Walls serves as the eyes, ears and protective shield for convoys of up to 40 vehicles pushing through rugged desert terrain where possible attacks and improvised explosive devices are a constant threat.
