On December 9, 1942, after the start of World War II, KA-BAR submitted a knife to the United States Marine Corps in hopes that it would become a general issue to that branch of the military. The USMC KA-BAR was adopted by the Marines as well as the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Underwater Demolition Teams. Years after World War II, many KA-BAR knives were unofficially reactivated in the Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom conflicts. Today, we look back on the KA-BAR’s impact on the Marine Corps and the legacy it has made. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. U.S. Marines with Recruiting Sub-Station Tempe attended the Tempe Town Lake Fourth of July celebration, Tempe, Ariz., July, 4, 2024. The Marines attended the event to support the community and conduct enhanced area canvassing.

Lance Cpl. James Stogner proved himself on the battlefield on April 5th, 1967 while serving with Charlie Company, 1st Marine Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment during the Vietnam War. 52 years later, on April 5th, 2019 in Polson, Montana, Stogner received the Navy Cross for his actions. Marines with Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division participated in a ground fighting competition aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendelton, Calif., Sept. 9, 2016. After completing a 6 mile hike, the competition was conducted to build camaraderie between the Marines.
