More Information
Retired United States Marine Corps Col. Grover Lewis III and National Monument Director for the National Montford Point Marine Association Mr. Houston Shinal speak on the history and advancement of African Americans in the Marine Corps at the Montford Point Marines Memorial on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., August 17, 2020. The Montford Point Marines are a group of 20,000 African Americans that broke racial barriers in the Marine Corps during WWII. The impact of their efforts altered the history of the Marine Corps as they fought through pain and discrimination, but failure was not an option for this group of Marines.
