U.S. Marines from the National Capital Region host a Toys for Tots drive-by donation point at the United States Marine Corps War Memorial, Arlington, Va., Dec. 5, 2020. Marines with Marine Barracks Washington laid repatriated World War II Marine Pfc. Harry Morrissey to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Sep. 22nd, 2020. Morrissey, an Everett, Massachusetts native, was killed in action while participating in the main offensive of the Battle of Guadalcanal on October 9, 1942, while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. The Place, The Legend, The Man

Bishopville, S.C., honored its hometown hero, Aug. 29, retired Major James “Jim” Capers Jr. during a “Parade of Heroes” there and with a plaque titled “The Place, The Legend, The Man” at the town’s Memorial Park. Capers is the recipient of a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with “V” for valor, and three Purple Hearts. Most notably for his time in Vietnam, he is one of the most decorated Marines in Force Reconnaissance history. He became the first African American to command a Marine Reconnaissance company and to receive a battlefield commission. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Sgt. Aaron Patterson). On 30 april, 1968, Capt. Jay R. Vargas went above and beyond the call of duty during battles in Vietnam, risking his own life and leading his men even after being wounded numerous times. For his valiant and intrepid actions that day, he earned our nation's highest honor, the Medal of Honor. Capt.
