U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 3/4 go through Jungle Warfare Training. Jungle warfare training prepares students to operate in jungle environments through the teaching of rappelling, patrolling, and land navigation. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region. Pfc. Justin Oates and Cpl. David Knight, assigned to Lima Co., 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, explain the endurance course, a grueling culminating event that builds upon the skills the learned at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan. The Hawaii-based battalion is attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine expeditionary Force as part of the unit deployment program. Oates is a St. Louis, Mo., native and Knight is a Rocklin, Calif., native.
