U.S. Navy sailor Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Nicholas Sandoval, U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. MarquezBurke and Cpl. Quinton Marshall, all assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, saved the life of a fellow Marine who was locked in his room seizing while aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Nov. 4, 2021. MarquezBurke broke the window, Marshall crawled through the opening to unlock the door and Sandoval administered life-saving care. All three were awarded an impact Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal later that day. Thanks to their instinct and training, the Marine is safe and alive today. Danny McDonald, a scout sniper with 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, is awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal during a ceremony at Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 17, 2021. Sgt. McDonald was recognized for his selfless actions in Surf City, N.C., May 4, 2019, where he risked his own life to save a 10-year-old child from drowning in the ocean. U.S. Marines with Fox Company, 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, honor Cpl. Albert Gettings on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Jan. 15, 2021. Cpl. Gettings served as a team leader with Fox Company, 2d Marine Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He died in Iraq in 2006; for his sacrifice he was awarded the Bronze Star with a “V” for valor device for his actions. In 2017 the award was upgraded to a Silver Star.
