U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 2/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct combat rubber raiding craft (CRRC) operations aboard the USS New Orleans (LPD 18), in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 19, 2022. The Marines conduct these operations to strengthen their ability to function as a boat company and secure contested terrain. The 31st MEU is operating aboard the ships of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region. U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), train alongside Force Reconnaissance Platoon (FRP), Maritime Raid Force (MRF), 31st MEU, as a part of Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations during MEU exercise (MEUEX) aboard the USAV Calaboza in Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 7, 2021. The Marine Corps ability to conduct VBSS operations is integral to our ability to operate in the Indonesian Pacific theatre.
