GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Purpose. This MARADMIN announces a change to the policy established in reference (a) pertaining to the identification of Marines being pregnant in Fitness Reports.
2. Background. In support of the Marine Corps effort to overhaul its official documents and publications to be more gender neutral, PREG will no longer be used to indicate a pregnant or post-partum Marines exemption from the Marine Corps body composition standards. Policy will shift to using the code EXMP for both of the following categories of Marines: 1) pregnant and post-partum Marines and 2) Marine diagnosed with a new or worsening medical condition or therapy which is unexpectedly leading to weight gain. Both of these exempted groups require documentation by appropriate medical authority but reporting officials are not to make clarifying statements in Section I or Section K as stated in the PES Manual.
3. Coordinating Instructions. Until a technical solution in the Automated Performance Evaluation System (APES) is implemented, reporting officials shall continue entering “PREG” into section A, item 8e, of a pregnant and post-partum Marines fitness report. MMRP-32 shall ensure “PREG” is replaced with “EXMP” when the report is processed and prior to its inclusion in the Marines Official Military Personnel File.
4. Inserting “EXMP” rather than “PREG” in the MROW and in the fitness report complies with the spirit and intent of the references. Once an APES technical solution is completed and implemented, a follow-on MARADMIN will provide additional clarification.
5. As of this date, fitness reports shall be processed in accordance with reference (a) and this MARADMIN.
6. Release authorized by MajGen Craig C. Crenshaw, Director, Manpower Management Division.//
