GENTEXT/REMARKS/ 1. This message announces available training seats for Marines to attend the Senior Musician course(CID N0355K2) at the Naval School of Music (NAVSOM) aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach, Virginia. This message is provided as a planning tool for commands to nominate Marines for
attendance.
2. This course provides instruction on rehearsing and conducting ceremonial bands, concert bands and jazz ensembles, analyzing advanced music, writing musical arrangements, managing non-musical support for performances, and capabilities and operations of a Marines Corps band.
2.a. Prerequisite. Must have a 5524 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and be a graduate of the Music Unit Leader course (CID N0355L2).
2.b. Nomination packages will consist of a letter of recommendation from a Band Officer (5502) or acting Band Officer, a letter of recommendation from a Bandmaster (5517) or acting Bandmaster, and a NAVSOM Screening Checklist.
2.c. Class schedule.
2.c.1. Report date is 15 September 2017.
2.c.2. Convene date is 18 September 2017.
2.c.3. Graduation date is 5 April 2018.
2.d. Available seats: 3.
3. In accordance with Ref (a), this course is a prerequisite for selection to Band Officer (5502).
4. All nominations will be submitted to Office of Marine Corps Communication, Marine Corps Music no later than 2359 EST 31 March 2017. In the event more nominations are received than seats available, a selection panel will convene on or about 3 April 2017 to determine the most qualified applicants for attendance.
