GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The Office of U.S. Marine Corps Communication (OUSMCC) will host the annual Commanders’ Media Training Symposium in Manhattan, New York, New York from 25-28 September 2017.
2.  This symposium will highlight critical skill sets necessary for commanders to understand the demands of the news cycle by providing exclusive access to some of the world’s most reputable news organizations and media corporations.  This symposium offers commanders and executive officers in leadership billets with expert communication skills training.  Interaction with experienced, professional news media representatives provides unique perspectives in understanding the local, national and international media landscape.  Briefs, participatory exercises, and guest speaker presentations are scheduled at venues throughout New York.
3.  Target Audience.  O-5, O-6 commanders or those selected for command;  Executive Officers may attend in the absence of the commander. Commanders are highly encouraged to bring their public affairs officers.
4.  Registration.  Request commanders submit registration requests no later than 31 August 2017 via e-mail to neil.ruggiero@usmc.mil.  Provide full name, grade, Military Occupational Speciality, current military address, work phone, mobile phone, e-mail address, present duty assignment, and rotation date of all nominees.  Should the number of requests exceed capacity, they will be prioritized in the order received.  OUSMCC will notify those approved no later than 9 September 2017.
5.  Funding.  All costs are funded by the participant’s parent command.  Government Travel Charge Cards must be used for official travel.  No disbursing or transportation assistance is available on site.  The one way cost of taxi to the billeting site from La Guardia, Kennedy or Newark airports is approximately 60 dollars.  Rental vehicles are not authorized.
6.  Uniform.  The uniform of the day is Service C for all symposium activities.
7.  Billeting.  Individual travelers are responsible for all billeting arrangements. This officer will publish a list of recommended billeting arrangements upon selection.
8.  Agenda.  Symposium training begins promptly at 0900 on 25 September 2017.  Training will conclude no later than 1400 on 28 September 2017.
9.  Symposium Material.  Read-ahead content, itinerary, Letter of Instruction and other coordinating information will be distributed via e-mail to all attendees.  Participants are highly encouraged to familiarize themselves with all content prior to arrival.
