GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  In support of the 9th annual "Feds Feed Families" (FFF) food drive, the Deputy Secretary of Defense has requested Department of Defense (DoD) support through donations of non-perishable food items for distribution to local food banks nationwide as a direct response to the "United We Serve” Act signed by President Obama in April 2009.
2.  Marine Corps Installations Command (MCICOM) is designated as the Marine Corps lead organization and supported Command for this initiative.  The FFF food drive is scheduled to run through 31 Aug 2017 and is an excellent opportunity for our Marines and Civilian Marines to support their communities.
3.  In 2016, the Federal Government collected 3.2 million pounds of donated food of which the Navy and Marine Corps team contributed over 1.5 million pounds.  The Department of the Navy was by far the largest Department of Defense contributor.
4.  Concept of Operations:
  (A)  Marine Corps Commands are to designate a FFF command representative to coordinate this initiative with their nearest installation Chaplain.
  (B)  FFF drop off and collection points are to be established throughout each Marine Corps installation, by either the FFF command representative or installation Chaplain.
  (C)  Each Monday, installation FFF command representatives will collect weekly reports from their tenant command FFF representatives and report consolidated numbers (lbs) to MCI region FFF Chaplains by close of business Tuesday.
  (D)  MCI Region Chaplains submit weekly progress report compiled from their subordinate units to MCICOM Chaplain.
  (E)  The weekly report includes the following information:
      (1)  Command participation information (Names, location)
      (2)  Weight, in pounds, of food collected.
      (3)  If applicable, food bank recipient.
      (4)  Other information:
           (a)  Public affairs articles and photos.
           (b)  Individuals/teams to be recognized/thanked for participation.
