GENTEXT/Remarks/1.  Purpose.  The squad leader development program (SLDP) is an institutional Mechanism to develop a better trained, educated, and matured sergeant infantry squad leader to enhance Marine infantry battalions’ capabilities to provide a force more capable of operating in complex, distributed environments.  Accordingly, SLDP capitalizes on the institutional success of the infantry small unit leaders course (ISULC), the Sergeants Course, and the Special Duty Assignment (SDA) program by synchronizing and streamlining the training, education, and assignment systems for selecting future Sergeant squad leaders.  The end state is for every infantry battalion to have a core of mature, trained, and educated Sergeant infantry squad leaders to lead and guide their units through their deployment cycle (pre-deployment, deployment, post-deployment, and reconstitution transition periods).
2.  On behalf of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, I want to personally congratulate all those Marines who accepted the challenge and applied for this program.  It is my pleasure to announce those Marines who were selected for SLDP.
3.  For FY17, acceptance messages will be published as Marines are approved for the program.  This message announces Marines selected for SLDP and identifies the Marines’ track and future assignments.  The Marines listed below are directed to attend the courses as indicated on the specified course dates.
3.a.  The following Marines have been selected for the operational forces (OPFOR) track.

4.  Coordinating Instructions
4.a.  Marines must accept or decline SLDP via their career planner in accordance with standard retention guidelines and procedures.  Commanders are directed to ensure Marines communicate with their career planner within 14 days to complete retention and lateral move (LATMOV) decisions.  Upon LATMOV acceptance and approval, the intended MOS (IMOS) 0365 will be reported into the Marine corps total force system (MCTFS).  MMEA-2 and Division Operations chiefs will notify PPO (POG-30, MGySgt Aiken) of Marines that decline.
4.b.  Marines will receive final assignment orders from their Monitor.  If currently serving as an 0913 when accepted into the squad leader development program current time on station as an 0913 will be deducted from 30 month requirement.
4.c.  All SLDP Marines will be required to complete the Sergeants Course distance education program Via MARINENET (EPME5000AA) prior to arrival at Sergeants course.  Corporals selected for SLDP with the IMOS of 0365 are authorized to begin the Sergeants course distance education program immediately, In accordance with FY17 SLDP MARADMIN 393/16.
4.d.  Planned course dates.  Course dates are subject to change.  Commanders and Marines should confirm actual dates with the appropriate school prior to detachment from present command.
4.e.  The authority to enroll approved SLDP Marines into Sergeants course and infantry Small Unit Leaders course resides with MARFORCOM and MARFORPAC.  Marines shall be enrolled into the Marine Corps training information management system (MCTIMS) student registrar by MARFORCOM G-3T (2d MARDIV) and MARFORPAC G-3T (1st MARDIV and 3d MARDIV).
4.f.  Commanders will report the PMOS into MCTFS once a Marine obtains the requirements for the 0365 MOS in accordance with the MOS manual NAVMC 1200.1a.
