GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Background. TRICARE Prime is a managed care option available in Prime Service Areas within the United States for Active Duty family members, Retirees, activated Guard and Reserve, some non-activated Guard and Reserve, Survivors, Medal of Honor Recipients and their family members, and qualified former spouses. Enrollment is required and some beneficiaries pay enrollment fees. TRICARE Prime meets or exceeds the requirements for minimum essential coverage requirements for the Affordable Care Act.
2. Assistant Secretary of Defense, Health Affairs released reference (a) and requested widest dissemination of information associated with TRICARE Prime enrollment fee changes.
3. In accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017, which changes the plan year for all TRICARE plans to a Calendar Year (CY) basis, the FY 2017 fees will be continued through 31 December 2017.
4. The CY 2018 fees will start on 1 January 2018 for all Group A (Service members who initially enlisted or were commissioned in a Uniformed Service before 1 January 2018) TRICARE Prime retired beneficiaries. The CY 2018 TRICARE Prime annual fee will be 289.08 dollars for individual, or 578.16 dollars for family.
5. Survivors of Active Duty deceased sponsors or Uniformed Services’ medically retired members and their dependents are exempted from the increase of Group A enrollment fees. Their enrollment fees remain frozen at the amount in effect when classified and enrolled, as long as their TRICARE Prime policy remains active.
6. Group B (Service member who initially enlists or is commissioned in a Uniformed Service on or after 1 January 2018) TRICARE Prime beneficiaries will pay an annual enrollment fee of 350 dollars for individual or 700 dollars for family.
