GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The 2018 Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium (JWLS) will be held from 20-22 June 2018 at the San Diego Convention Center at 111 W. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA.
2.  The Sea Service Leadership Association (SSLA) hosts the Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium and is dedicated to providing professional development through networking, education, and mentorship of women from all three maritime armed forces – the Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard.  Each year, the Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium brings together service women and men, decision makers, policy influencers, and thought leaders to address global military challenges.  The Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium is one of the largest gatherings in the United States of service women.  However, service men are welcome to attend.  The SSLA, chaired this year by senior Marine Corps leadership, offers a specific Marine Corps Day at this year’s JWLS, offering Marine Corps panels and speakers on topics of interest to Marines.  This year’s theme, “The Power Within You” is intended to promote independent initiatives for personal and professional development.
3.  Subject to conference approval, CMC (MPE) will fund participation within a limited scope.  The Marine Corps will sponsor sixty (60) members’ conference/registration fees only.  Commanders may authorize travel and per diem utilizing command level funding for MPE sponsored Marines only.  The Major Megan McClung award recipient will have the conference/registration fee and all travel fully funded by CMC (MPE).  Local travel is authorized for members in the local area.  All Marine Corps funded participation will be coordinated through the Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management (MPE) Branch.
4.  Contact MPE POC to obtain conference reservations NLT 13 Jun 18.  Reservations will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
5.  More information can be found on the JWLS website at www.sealeaders.org.
6.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force.
7.  SSLA is a non-federal entity wholly independent of the Marine Corps.
8.  Release authorized by Brigadier General S. F. Benedict, Director, Manpower Plans and Policy Division.//
