SUBJ/ARMED FORCES DAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Since 20 May 1950, our Nation has set aside the third Saturday in May as Armed Forces Day, the day for all Americans to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service to our country. This year on 19 May, we continue to build on that tradition.
2. On this 68th anniversary of this holiday, join me and all Americans in honoring our Armed Forces for their selfless devotion to duty as well as the sacrifices they and their families make every day in order that we all may enjoy our freedoms.
3. The courageous efforts of our service members to protect our homeland and to bring hope and security to others around the globe is a truly inspirational testament to our national resolve and a national spirit of compassion and generosity. Ours is truly a great nation because of the service of our military men and women.
4. As we observe Armed Services Day, please remember that you have the strong support of the American people and that your many sacrifices and accomplishments are not forgotten, and that your service is vital to our national security and prosperity. Thank you for your service.
