Keep safety a top priority this spring and summer

Spring is here. The sun is out, the temperature is rising and people are headed outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful weather.

Unfortunately, as the outdoor activities increase, so does the chance for injury.

In an effort to minimize the risk of injury, Team Travis members should keep a few safety tips in mind this spring.

Whether out hiking, mountain biking, camping or swimming, remember these safety tips:

-- Always have a wingman

-- Inform others of your itinerary

-- Stay within your ability or skill level

-- Keep physical conditioning in mind

-- Be prepared. Make a list of necessary items to include; life jackets, food, water or first-aid kits

-- If participating in a high-risk activity, ensure the proper Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times

As the weather continues to heat up, and the 101 Critical Days of Summer approaches, remember the importance of keeping safety at the forefront of all activities year-round.

"It's important every Travis member keep safety in mind as we head into the spring and summer months," said Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, 60th Air Mobility Wing chief of safety. "Plan ahead, always have a wingman and don't be afraid to step back and think about the risks involved in the many outdoor activities you will take part in this season. By taking a few simple precautions, Team Travis members can enjoy a safe, accident-free spring and summer."
