GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  In an effort to best prepare Marines for the current and future operating environments while ensuring that all Marines have the opportunity to remain competitive for promotion, the Marine Corps continues to refine the College of Enlisted Military Education (CEME) continuum and explore ways of providing additional opportunities for Marines to complete professional military education (PME).  PME requirements identified in reference (a) and exemptions for Marines serving on special duty assignments established in reference (b) remain unchanged.
2.  As part of Marine Corps University's continued efforts to afford every Marine a resident-like PME experience at each rank, College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) will host weekend seminars for sergeants and staff sergeants.  Seminars for gunnery sergeants are currently being piloted.
2.A.  The Weekend Seminar Program (WSP) will be executed through the CDET regional campuses.  Class cycles will be executed bi-annually.
2.A.1.  Cycle 1.  Convenes in January and graduates in May.
2.A.2.  Cycle 2.  Convenes in July and graduates in November.
2.B.  Finalized dates will be posted on the CDET website at https:(slash)(slash)www.usmcu.edu/cdet/reserve#cdet_enlisted.
3.  Enlisted Professional Military Education (EPME) WSPs have been modeled after the highly successful Weekday Seminar Program to reach a wider audience and support the Select Marine Corps Reserve schedule.
3.A.  EPME weekend seminars follow the same program of instruction as the weekday seminar program, consisting of the same curriculum and workload.
3.B.  Students meet one weekend a month for four consecutive months.
3.C.  Students have approximately 3 hours of preparation per week or 12 hours per month for each onsite seminar.
3.D.  Each seminar maintains a ratio of approximately 12 to 1.
3.E.  Students are assessed through quizzes, short papers, seminar participation, and other written assignments.
3.F.  Course prerequisites:  Nominees must be grade appropriate or selectee, meet the Marine Corps Body Composition Program standards, and have completed the grade appropriate Distance Education Program on Marinenet.
3.G.  Registration is considered continuous and will be processed on a first come first served basis.
3.G.1.  Course registration information can be found on the CDET website at https:(slash)(slash)www.usmcu.edu/cdet/enlisted-seminar-enrollment.
3.H.  Registration deadline is 30 days prior to convene date.
4.  Amplifying instructions
4.A.  The WSP is fully funded by Marine Forces Reserve for the Reserve Component.  Marines accepted to the program will be placed on active duty for operational support orders.
4.B.  The WSP is not intended to replace inactive drill training days.  It will be at the commanders discretion as to how each Marine is scheduled for the program.
4.C.  The WSP may not be available for both cycles in all regions.  For additional information contact the Enlisted Reserve Liaison or review the CDET website.
4.D.  Students that complete the CDET WSP will meet the resident PME requirement for their grade.  For purposes of promotion and assignment, the WSP is considered equivalent for all components.
5.  Release authorized by Lieutenant General Robert S. Walsh, Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command//
