GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  This message serves to energize the force in preparation for the 3rd Annual Marine Corps Innovation Symposium which will look at making innovation part of our service culture and processes.  The Symposium culminates a successful year of innovation and intends to invigorate the force for another year.  Maximum participation is encouraged through attendance of the Symposium and virtual participation prior to the event, referenced in paragraph 7.
2.  The Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration sponsors the Annual Marine Corps Innovation Symposium to bring together individuals from across the service to address challenges and to inform senior leaders of alternative approaches to enable organizational change.
3.  The Symposium is co-hosted by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory and the Next Generation Logistics Innovation Cell.
4.  Purpose.  Participants from across the Marine Corps will come together in Quantico, VA from 24-26 July 2018 to educate the force, promote organizational transformation, and identify actionable recommendations to make innovation part of the Marine Corps culture and processes.
5.  Concept of operations. This three day Symposium will consist of four working groups, plenary speakers from the Marine Corps, industry, and academia and displays of successful and ongoing innovative efforts.

7.  Online collaboration is available to all Marines now and. will continue to facilitate conversations on the Symposiums topics leading up to the event.  The collaboration site can be accessed through the MCWL Symposium website or directly at:  http:(slash)(slash)www.usmc.md5.net.
8.  Updates from the Symposium to include videos of the plenary sessions will be available on the Innovation Symposium website during and following the event.
9.  There are four topics that will be focused on during the Symposium.
9.a.  Working Group 1:  What cultural changes can be enacted to empower individual Marine innovation?
9.b.  Working Group 2:  What actions need to be taken to incorporate emerging technologies into the ACE, LCE, GCE and CE?
9.c.  Working Group 3:  How can innovation injects be seamlessly incorporated through the requirements and acquisition process to accelerate emerging capabilities?
9.d.  Working Group 4:  How can the human resource development process be modernized to enhance talent management?
10.  Attendance.  All Marines are encouraged to participate and register for the Symposium.  For guidance on attendance, MCWL released a calling message with DTG 081854Z May 18 to the Deputy Commandants, MARFORs, and MEFs with specific guidance and allotments.
