GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. This message announces the offering of the Electronic Warfare (EW) foundation course for Marines of any Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) requiring knowledge of Electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO). These courses are held at the 558 Flight Training Squadron (FTS), joint base San Antonio (JBSA)-Randolph, TX.
1.A. Due to our adversaries continuous advances in information technology, emerging Marine Corps doctrine and Concepts stress the importance of evolving the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) capabilities to conduct EMSO within the information Environment (IE). The MAGTF must be able to operate with freedom of action in and through the IE to preserve, generate, and apply EMS-dependent capabilities in concert with fires and maneuver to accelerate tempo and achieve physical and cognitive advantages.
1.B. The EW foundation course curriculum is derived from formally established EW schools and initially tailored to meet identified 1000 level EW academic training requirements. This EW foundations course provides TECOM and the EW Community an opportunity to shape EW training for current and future generations of MAGTF EW officers (EWO).
1.C. The two year interim EW foundation course is expected to run four to five times per year. Class dates will be published once per fiscal year (FY) for FY 2018 and FY 2019.
2. Concept of operations
2.A. Course consists of 10 training days at JBSA-Randolph.
2.B. Class EW18-01 was held 4 to 22 December 2017 (completed).
2.C. Class EW18-02 was held 6 to 16 February 2018 (completed).
2.D. Class EW18-03 was held 16 to 27 April 2018 (completed).
2.E. Class EW18-04 will be held 16 to 27 July 2018.
2.F. Class EW18-05 will be held 10 to 21 September 2018.
2.G. Initial FY19 classes are tentatively scheduled for 3 to 14 December 2018 and 18 February to 1 March 2019.
2.H. Schedule of events. Check-in will take place on the Monday morning of the start date at 0800 at the 558 FTS, BLDG 743, room 141, 520 I Street East, JBSA-Randolph, TX 78150. Course training times are 0800-1630 daily.
3. Coordinating instructions
3.A. Eligibility. This course is open to Marines of all ranks and MOS that have a need to know EMS operations as deemed necessary by their Commanding Officer.
3.B. Security. Attendees must have an active secret clearance or higher to attend this training. Visit requests must be sent via Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) to Security Management Office (SMO) code: JBSA-RN558 no later than 5 business days prior to class start date. 3.C. Uniform. Green flight suit and Woodland Marine pattern (MARPAT) (for non-aviation attendees).
3.D. Funding. The parent commands will be responsible for Temporary Additional Duty/Temporary Duty (TAD/TDY) funding. Government messing will be available for all three meals, however, due to vault access restrictions, students may expect working lunches. Access to course study materials is limited to Monday through Friday 0730 through 1630 hours.
3.E. Lodging. Base lodging is based on availability. Call the Randolph Air Force Inn at 210-652-1844, DSN 487-1844. Cost is sixty dollars per night.
3.F. Submit nominations to the EW Foundation Course POC NLT 15 working days prior to the start of each course. The POC will forward read ahead material 10 days prior to start date. Student nominee required information includes full name, rank, security clearance, phone number and email address.
