GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  As previously announced by the references, the Blended Retirement System (BRS) election period ends on 31 December 2018.  During this period, opt-in eligible Marines must register their retirement choice to either remain with the Legacy Retirement System or switch to the BRS via Marine Online (MOL).  BRS Enrollment is irrevocable and cannot be changed once registered in MOL.  As of 10 July 2018, about 118,000 eligible Marines have yet to register their election in MOL.
2.  Commanders are required to inform all opt-in eligible Marines who have not made a retirement choice of the 31 December 2018 deadline.  Commanders are responsible for ensuring their opt-in eligible Marines complete the mandatory BRS training and have access to Personal Financial Manager (PFM) support to enable an informed financial decision.  Command Profile provides a listing of Marines yet to register their choice.   The Commander’s BRS Smart Pack provides instruction on the use of Command Profile (available at https(slash)(slash)www.manpower.usmc.mil/BRS).
3.  Installation PFMs, Command Financial Specialists, and contracted Personal Financial Counselors offer free financial counseling services and resources to help Marines prepare for their choice.
4.  Email questions to BRS@usmc.mil.
