SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Air Force's largest art and craft event is nearing--the Scott AFB Art and Craft Show.
This year's event is Oct. 15-19 beginning with a free opening night reception Oct. 15 at the base library from 6-7:30 p.m.
Entry forms will be available beginning Aug. 1. Entries can be made by visiting www.375fss.com/artscrafts.htm and clicking on the "Arts & Crafts Show" link, or by picking up a copy of the entry form from the Arts and Crafts Center, the base library, or the Youth Center. Entries are due by Oct. 5.
Art and craft work representing all forms will be on display throughout the weeklong event. Many pieces will be marked for sale, and will be available from the artist at the conclusion of the show.
Each year a select number of artisans from across the Air Force are chosen to have work displayed on the Air Force Gallery website. Scott AFB has led the Air Force in the number of artisans selected for this distinct honor for the last five years.
A new category has been added this year for computer graphic artists called digital graphic art. All artisans in each age groups may enter pieces in up to nine categories. The other categories are: wood/metal, fiber/textile, painting, sculpture, pottery/ceramic, drawing, photography, and all others. Entry is free and up to three pieces may be entered in each category. Entry details will be available on the entry form. The theme for this year's show is, "Memories of Military Life." Submitting entries under the theme is optional, but theme entries will qualify for a special Theme Award.
More than 2,000 visitors viewed over 400 pieces of art and craft work submitted by nearly 200 artisans during the 2011 show. The 2012 event is expected to be even larger. In addition to award ribbons and certificates, participants also receive awards from various local businesses helping sponsor the event.
Organizations helping arrange this year's show include the Scott Arts and Crafts Center, the base library, the Youth Center, and show committee volunteers. Additional support for the annual show comes from 375th Force Support Squadron Marketing Department and several local businesses.
