GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Since 1981, October has commemorated National Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Domestic Violence Prevention Month serves to raise awareness of domestic abuse and provides community education on available resources. The Office of the Secretary of Defense’s 2018 theme is “Know the signs of healthy relationships and how to strengthen yours.” Strengthening and supporting healthy relationships may help to prevent domestic abuse in the Marine Corps community.
2. Respect your relationship. Be respectful of your partner and yourself. Everyone deserves a safe and healthy relationship. If you are not safe in your relationship, know your reporting options. Unrestricted reporting includes law enforcement and command involvement; restricted reporting does not. Victim advocacy and clinical services are available with either reporting option.
3. Know the signs. Learn the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships to help strengthen your relationship.
4. Love and learn. Relationships can have a mixture of healthy and unhealthy behaviors. No relationship is perfect, and every relationship can be improved. Learn more about what makes relationships stronger and healthier.
5. Resources, services, and help are always available. For additional information contact the local installation Family Advocacy Program, Chaplain, Community Counseling Program, or Military Provost Office. Help is also available at the National Domestic Violence Hotline (800-799-7233), Marine Corps DSTRESS Line (877-476-7734 CONUS/098-970-7734 OCONUS), and Military OneSource at WWW.MILITARYONESOURCE.COM (1-800-342-9647).
6. The Marine Corps community shows support for the 2018 Domestic Violence Prevention Month by participating in local installation events and activities. Leadership support of these events is instrumental in making it clear, by word and deed, that domestic violence will not be tolerated in the Marine Corps.
7. This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force and will expire one year from date published.
