Mission

Accomplishes global special operations tasking as an Air Force component member of USSOCOM. Commands 6,500 active duty and civilian personnel organized in 4 groups of 25 squadrons and 12 staff agencies. Operates maintains, supports 84 AC-130H/U, C-130E, MC-130H/P, CASA-212, CV-22B, MI-17, UH-1H/N, PC-12, & U-28A aircraft. Directs resources and services for wing personnel and 38 tenant units from 6 MAJCOMs and USSOCOM.

The wing's core missions include aerospace surface interface, agile combat support, combat aviation advisory operations, information operations, personnel recovery/recovery operations, precision aerospace fires, psychological operations dissemination, specialized aerospace mobility and specialized aerial refueling.

The 1st SOW also serves as a pivotal component of AFSOC's ability to provide and conduct special operations missions ranging from precision application of firepower to infiltration, exfilitration, resupply and refueling of special operations force operational elements. In addition, the 1st SOW brings distinctive intelligence capabilities to the fight, including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance contributions, predictive analysis, and targeting expertise to joint special operations forces and combat search and rescue operations.

AFSOC Local Range Usage:

· R-2915 to include Camp Rudder/Fld 6, Hurlburt Fld, B-7, B-12, B-76, A-77, A-78, and the air/ground space between receive extensive use by AFSOC and USSOCOM customers
· Average 42 sorties/ground maneuver equates to 182 hours per day (surface to 25K)
· Special Tactics, SERE, and OPFOR using urban facilities, extensive ground maneuver with live weapons and coordination with all air assets (surface to 15K)
· MC-130, CV-22, Non Standard Aviation conduct blacked out landings (surface to 1K)
· Small UAS require landing zones and Urban Areas for reconnaissance (surface to 3K)
· MC-130 and CV-22 require MTRs into the range, helicopter air refueling tracks (surface to 3K), and fixed wing air refueling tracks (8K-12K)
· AC-130 (dry fire) and NSAv orbits require Urban Target Arrays (6 - 15K) on and off the range
· MC-130 airdrop requires land and water drop zones: static (surface to 1K) HALO/HAHO (up to 25K)
· AC-130 and CV-22 require diverse Live Fire target arrays to include Urban Areas (6 - 15K)
· All AFSOC weapon systems require realistic OPFOR and/or Electronic Combat emitters
