GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Purpose. To announce The Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO) request for nominations for the 2018 Suicide Prevention Month Installation Outreach Recognition Award.
2. Background. Behavioral Programs Branch (MFC), Marine and Family Programs Division (MF), Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA) is the responsible office for Suicide Prevention. The award honors installations with the most dedicated and influential suicide prevention program. In keeping with the Department's theme, #BeThere, recipients will be recognized for their efforts to be there for service members, their families, and DoD civilians by spreading awareness and building community support for suicide prevention.
3. Intent. Installation POC should work with commands, tenet commands, units, schools, youth teen centers, organizations, spouses clubs, and Marine Corps Community Services to collect information to submit on one nomination form.
4. Method. Each installation or site award package should contain the following:
4A. 2018 Suicide Prevention Month Outreach Recognition Award Nomination Form describing activities or events that occurred in September 2018 (one nomination form per installation).
4B. Provide a narrative describing installation’s activities and events throughout September 2018. Use 12-point Arial font, double space and do not exceed 750 words.
4C. Provide installation POC’s full name, office phone number, and email address.
4D. Include qualitative and/or quantitative data demonstrating how the activity or event affected the community — such as number of participants, populations participating, or survey outcomes.
4E. Supporting material such as pictures or fliers may be included (photographs in jpg format).
4F. Nominations must be received no later than 9 November 2018. Email nominations to Headquarters Marine Corps Suicide Prevention Capability at alisa.laporte@usmc.mil. The email subject line should read “2018 SPM (your installation name).”
5. End State. Recipients will be announced in January 2019, and recognized with a special awards ceremony to follow in April 2019 in the National Capital Region.
