Brisk winds and chilly temperatures did not dampen the enthusiasm of the family, friends and base personnel  who were on hand to greet more than a dozen members of the 434th Security Forces Squadron as they returned to Grissom recently after completing a six-month deployment to Afghanistan.

While deployed, the 434th SFS members were assigned to the International Security Assistance Forces at Kandahar Airfield

"Words cannot express how very proud I am of these highly professional Defenders; everyone of them was a volunteer deployer," stated Maj. Chris Witter, 434th Security Forces commander.  "They conducted law enforcement operations for over 20,000 NATO and U.S. Forces in one of the most austere and dangerous areas on the globe. The deployed command element contacted me on numerous occasions to relay how impressed they were with the 434 SFS's tough-minded professionalism and never quit intensity."

Grissom is one of only five Air Force Reserve Command bases in the nation and its members routinely deploy around the world to support various Air Force and Department of Defense missions.
