GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of the entire Marine Corps, it is my distinct pleasure to salute the United States Coast Guard on the occasion of your 229th anniversary.
2.  Born 4 August 1790, in the earliest days of our republic, the US Coast Guard has continued to provide our nation with coastal defense, maritime law enforcement, and rescue from the ravages of the oceans. 
3.  Often in times of war, it was often a Coast Guardsman, such as Signalman First Class Douglas Munro at Guadalcanal, who ferried Marines to and from shore under withering enemy fire.  It is the dedicated and courageous service exemplified by Munro that forever bonds our venerable organization together today.  Therefore, it is with the deepest respect and admiration that every Marine congratulates the Coast Guard on this historic anniversary.  Know that we recognize your service and sacrifices and honor your courage and commitment to your mission and our nation.  Happy 229th!
