GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  This MARADMIN solicits participation in the 2020 Women in Defense (WID) Virtual Leadership Symposium.  The symposium will be conducted from 1000–1700 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on 10 September 2020.  The theme for this year is “Leading Change:  Change Management vs. Change Leadership.”  Over the course of this one-day virtual event, WID will convene members of the military, defense industry, government, and academia, to explore ways to create a more diverse workforce and strengthen American and allied national security.  The Commandant of the Marine Corps will provide closing keynote remarks beginning at 1600 EDT.
2.  WID is a National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Affiliate that engages, cultivates, and advances women in all aspects of national security.  Incorporated in 1985, Women in Defense provides members a business environment for professional growth through strategic networking, education, and career development.  This national alliance is comprised of women and men from industry and defense organizations of every size; all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces; Government agencies, academia, think tanks, associations, and professional services.  WID is a non-federal entity wholly independent of the Marine Corps.  More information is available on their website at http://www.womenindefense.net/.
3.  Commanders may authorize Permissive Temporary Additional Duty for Marines and Sailors attached to their unit to allow virtual participation in an environment without distractions.  Commanders/Supervisors may also approve civilian Marine participation.  The WID symposium is free for all active duty members, government employees who are members of WID are also free.  MPE will fund a limited number of registrations for government employees who are not members of WID.
