SUBJ/VETERANS DAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of all Marines, allow me to extend deepest gratitude to the generations of military veterans who have served our great Nation.  On 16 APRIL l 1945, President Harry S. Truman told the U.S. Congress that “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid.  They have earned our undying gratitude.  America will never forget their sacrifices.”  His sentiments endure today.
2.  Each year, we give thanks and honor the millions of men and women who served the Nation as members of the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Army, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, and the Space Force.  Throughout our Nation’s history, veterans have sacrificed their livelihoods - and many their lives - in defense of liberty.  The tradition of honoring their sacrifices, dating back to Armistice Day of World War I, is one of heartfelt gratitude and full appreciation for the courage and selflessness it takes to serve in the United States Armed Forces.
3.  On 11 November, we pause as a Nation to honor those, past and present, who have worn the uniform of the U.S. military and dedicated themselves to preserving our freedoms.  Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
4.  Semper Fidelis, David H. Berger, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
