GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Purpose.  To solicit nominations for the annual Expeditionary Warfare Excellence Awards (EWEA) to be presented during the 2021 Marine Corps Association & Foundation (MCA&F) Combat Development Dinner.  The EWEA are a set of prestigious awards intended to recognize those Marines and Sailors who have distinguished themselves as exceptional performers in their current assignment and who have most impacted the future of Naval Expeditionary Warfare and Amphibious Capabilities, Doctrine and Training through innovative concepts, leadership, and teamwork.
1.a.  The criteria are for Enlisted Navy and Enlisted Marine (E6-E7), and Navy Officer and Marine Officer (O3-O4), Active or Reserve, that has demonstrated the expeditionary warfare core traits of innovation, leadership, and teamwork while serving in an expeditionary warfare assignment.  The most outstanding contribution, in the area of naval expeditionary warfare and amphibious operations, developing or advancing concepts, doctrine, technology, or tactics, techniques and procedures contributes towards the transformation required for the 21st century; or demonstrates continual resourcefulness by meeting operational and/or strategic challenges.
1.b.  Inclusive dates for the awards are 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020.
1.c.  The EWEA features four awards:  Enlisted Navy and Enlisted Marine (E6-E7), and Navy Officer and Marine Officer (O3-O4).  Active or Reserve.
1.d.  Selection of award recipients will be made by an awards board convened by CD&I and OPNAV N9, and will be comprised of highly qualified members of the expeditionary warfare community from CD&I and OPNAV N9.  Announcement of award winners and details regarding presentation of awards will be provided in future correspondence.
2.  Action
2.a.  Commands with personnel meeting the criteria contained in the reference are highly encouraged to submit nominations via the endorsing chain of command (first O6) to the Deputy Commandant, CD&I (DC, CD&I) designated Action Officer (AO) per the awards nominations announcement Marine Administrative Message (MARADMIN).
2.b.  Award nomination packages must be received by CD&I appointed AO NLT 0730 EST 1 April 2021.
2.c.  Award nominations package shall be sent electronically via email to HQMC CD&I appointed AO, LtCol Kaho Ng:  kaho.ng@usmc.mil, and LtCol Ryan P Benson:  ryan.benson@usmc.mil to include one file in Microsoft Word format, and one file in Portable Document Format (PDF) per nominee.  The subject line should read:  “Calendar Year 2021 EWEA Program, ICO Rank/Name”.
2.c.1.  Nomination letter from command, with chain of command endorsements, to include first O6 in the chain of command.
2.c.2.  Unit point of contact to include phone number and email address.
2.c.3.  Phone number and email address for each nominee.
2.c.4.  A summary of performance that provides a concise resume of qualifications, including billet description and significant contribution not to exceed two pages, using 12-pitch courier new.
2.c.5.  A biography of the individual.
2.c.6.  A proposed citation not to exceed 20 typewritten lines, using 12-pitch courier new font.
2.c.7.  Do not include SSN for award nominees.
2.d.  FMF, Fleet, and supporting establishment commands are encouraged to submit as many nominations as deemed eligible for consideration.
3.  Responsibilities
3.a.  HQMC CD&I, Maritime Expeditionary Warfare (MEXW) is responsible for coordinating Marine Corps and Navy participation in award selections and those ceremonies conducted by MCA&F.
3.b.  Local commanders
3.b.1.  Local commanders shall provide Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) orders and travel/per diem funding for individual award recipients incidental to participation in award ceremonies.  Every effort shall be made to ensure the presence of the award recipient(s) at those ceremonies.
3.b.2.  Individuals, other than those described in paragraphs 3.b.1, who desire to attend award ceremonies, must do so at their own expense.
3.b.3.  Local commanders are encouraged to recognize individual recipients at appropriate local ceremonies.
