GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Purpose.  To announce the Department of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office’s (SAPRO) annual Excellence in Primary Prevention Award.  This award will recognize those who have carried out significant efforts in the primary prevention of sexual assault.  The performance period for this award is 1 October 2019 – 30 September 2020.
2.  Background.  Each October, DoD SAPRO sponsors recognition for an individual, group, or unit from each Military Service, component, or organization for their work in advancing the primary prevention of sexual assault.  Six awards will be presented, one to each of the Military Services, the National Guard Bureau, and the Coast Guard.
3.  Policies, programs, or practices at any level of the organization are eligible activities.  Efforts to build collaborations and partnerships are highly encouraged as well.  Stand-alone awareness-raising activities (e.g., fun runs, obstacle courses, walk-a-mile, marches, mobile applications that only provide information) executed outside of a comprehensive prevention strategy are not considered sufficient to prevent sexual assault and, as such, are not in keeping with the intent of this award.  This award will recognize those who have undertaken significant efforts (underway or completed), leading to demonstrable outcomes or helpful changes within their sphere of influence.
4.  Commands and Sexual Assault Response Coordinators are encouraged to consider nominating an individual or group, military or civilian, that has made a significant contribution to sexual assault primary prevention efforts.  All nominations, using the nomination template, should be submitted to HQMC Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) by 17 December 2020 at robert.franklin@usmc.mil.
5.  Details on eligibility requirements and Marine Corps submission protocols, reference a, are available on the HQMC SAPR Gearlocker site located at (https:(slash)(slash)ehqmc.usmc.mil/sites/family/mfb/SitePages/Home.aspx).
6.  The SharePoint site listed above is accessible to anyone with an eHQMC SharePoint Account.  To obtain an account, navigate to www.thegearlocker.org and follow the directions under “Create a New Account.”  You will receive a confirmation email when the account is created.
7.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force.
8.  This MARADMIN is cancelled 1 October 2021.
9.  This message has been approved for release by LtGen David A. Ottignon, Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.//
