GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  It is my sincere pleasure to join all Marines in congratulating 2d Marine Division on its 80th anniversary.
2.  Since its activation on 1 February 1941, during the early days of World War II, the 2d Marine Division has served with courage, distinction, and dedication in far flung reaches of the globe.  The “Follow Me” Division established its reputation in the Pacific crucibles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and Saipan.  Your steadfast legacy continued in Lebanon, Panama, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan.  Delivering a cohesive and effective fighting force whenever you’ve been called, 2d MarDiv is ready to win in “any clime and place.”
3.  All Marines, past and present, honor the service and sacrifices of this storied division.  For 80 years, through your courage and tenacity, you have earned the respect and admiration of both friends and adversaries.  All Marines and Sailors join you in celebrating eight decades of exceptional service.
